Siri in mac osx 10.9

A job posting has been spotted Apple’s website for a “Siri UI Engineer”. The post requests that applicants have UNIX and OS X experience, lending credence to the rumors that Siri will soon be a feature of the MAC OS X. This has been talked about for some time but the chatter picked up in the autumn of 2012. This was when Apple was apparently testing early builds of OS X 10.9, the next MAC operating system.  It was quoted by reliable sources at that time that “Siri would be a feature in OS X 10.9”.

Version 10.8, Mountain Lion already features dictation software and it would seem to be the next logical step to include Siri.  iOS 5.1 featured dictation software on the iPad and that was followed with Siri on iOS 6 so it figures that the Mac will be no different.
The job posting, which has since disappeared, did hint that Siri might have many more abilities on OS X that it has on iOS. Part of the wording in the post says that applicants should “consider [Siri]  an entire miniature OS within the OS, and you get a good idea of the scope.”
The posting also goes on to say that the successful applicant will be working very closely with other app designers which is a big clue that Siri will be far more integrated with other apps on MAC OS X than it is on iOS.
Whether the full potential of Siri will be realized on the new OS remains to be seen. However, if it isn’t, it is there to be built on. It is rumored that OS X 10.9 will be unveiled sometime this year.
